TANGPIN Optical Fiber Patch Cord Types

According to connector: Optical Fiber Patch Cord can be divided into FC, SC, ST, LC

FC type

The external reinforcement method is a metal sleeve, and the fastening method is a turnbuckle. Generally used on the ODF side (the most used on the patch panel)

SC type

The connector for connecting the GBIC optical module has a rectangular shell, and the fastening method is a plug-and-pull type, which does not need to be rotated. (Most used on router switches)

ST type

Commonly used in optical fiber distribution frame, the shell is round, and the fastening method is turnbuckle. (For 10Base-F connections, the connectors are usually ST type. Often used in fiber optic distribution frames)

LC type

A connector for connecting SFP modules, constructed with an easy-to-use modular jack (RJ) latch mechanism. (commonly used by routers)

According to the type of fiber optic connector polishment: PC, APC, UPC

PC type

PC is microsphere grinding and polishing, the surface of the ferrule is ground into a slight spherical surface, and the fiber core is located at the highest point of bending.

UPC type

The end face of the UPC connector is not completely flat, and has a slight curvature to achieve a more precise mating.

APC type

APC, the fiber end face is usually ground to an 8° bevel. The 8° angled bevel allows for tighter fiber endfaces and provides better connection performance by reflecting light through its bevel angle to the cladding rather than directly back to the source.

According to the transmission medium: Single-mode and Multi-mode patch cords. Single-mode: OS1, OS2. Multi-mode: OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4, OM5.

OS1 type

OS1 single-mode fiber core and cladding are made of glass, which cannot be bent and are fragile. The coating layer protects and prolongs the service life of the fiber. (designed for indoor applications)

OS2 type

The OS2 single-mode fiber is helically placed in a semi-rigid tube, so OS2 can stretch without bending the inner fiber, preventing the fiber from being damaged under enormous tension. (suitable for outdoor applications)

OM1 type

Large core diameter and numerical aperture, with strong light-gathering ability and bending resistance.

OM2 type

The core diameter and numerical aperture are relatively small, which effectively reduces the modal dispersion of the multimode fiber, significantly increases the bandwidth, and reduces the production cost by 1/3.

OM3 type

The use of flame-retardant outer skin can prevent the spread of flame, prevent the emission of smoke, acid gas and poisonous gas, etc., and meet the needs of 10 gb/s transmission rate.

OM4 type

Developed for VSCEL laser transmission, the effective bandwidth is more than double that of OM3.

OM5 type
